The
Port 2000 Program responds to a set of problems
concerning the development of international
logistics:
 |
Rapid
growth of intercontinental exchanges
in general and of container traffic
in particular |
 |
Creation
of mega-alliances between shipowners,
implying a strict selection of ports
of call according to qualitative criteria,
in an ultra-competitive environment |
 |
Significant
and continuous increase in the size
of container carriers |
 |
Progressive
saturation of Le Havre port infrastructures
and container terminals due to a sustained
increase in traffic |
A modern and efficient logistics tool
With
12 berths planned and a full length of about
4km, ultra-modern equipment and platforms
as well as an optimal servicing organization
to the French and European hinterland, Port
2000 will allow Le Havre to handle 3 million
TEUs from 2006. Le Havre will thus reinforce
its position among the most prestigious
European ports, considered as such given
their ability to handle the future outstanding
traffic flows and their giants of the sea.
Along
with the creation of these major maritime
infrastructures, other large programs are
in progress, aimed at ensuring a perfect
logistic continuity for import and export
flow of goods:
 |
Optimum
railway servicing (in platforms) and
development of rapid France/Europe servicing |
 |
Creation
of a specialized river terminal directly
connected to Port 2000 |
 |
Optimization
of feeder transfers |
A major advantage for Le Havre logistics
center point
Recognized
as a Public Interest Project, Port 2000
is a new springboard for an already privileged
and buoyant sector. The creation of a new
logistics park of about 200ha directly connected
to the new container terminals and the setting
up of leading international companies in
this field are revealing: for companies,
Le Havre will soon be an indispensable platform
for efficient European logistics. |
