Due
to direct proximity to large waste deposits,
resulting from a strong industrial concentration
in the Seine Valley (car industry, chemistry,
petrochemistry, mechanics, etc.), and to
proximity to large population basins (Upper-Normandy,
Paris basin...), Le Havre region is provided
with an environment particularly suitable
to develop activities dealing with treatment,
recycling and valorization of wastes.
In
addition, Le Havre logistics assets being
very competitive, it is possible to access
these large raw material deposits easily
and rapidly (railway, river barges, road,
sea...).

|
| |
Given
the great diversity of wastes to be treated,
a large range of specialties has been developed
in the field of treatment and recycling:
special industrial waste, batteries, heavy
metals, organic and plant waste, concretes
and coatings, contaminated containers, oils,
plastics, clinkers, ammoniacal solutions...

With
many sensitive plants certified ISO 14001,
the application of special certifications
to sub-contracting teams, the MASE (Company
Safety Assistance Manual) certification and
the creation of advanced periods of training
dedicated to the safety of industrial facilities,
Le Havre region perfectly masters its industrial
environment, under control of the DRIRE (Regional
Administration of Industry, Research and the
Environment). |

 |

The
institutional investors of Le Havre region
are also involved in the major issues of
environment and sustainable development
through large projects such as Etarès
(eco-center for elimination of domestic
and standard industrial wastes) and Ecostu’Air
(center for energy recovery from domestic
wastes). Link

"The
waste treatment sector is characterized
by the complementary relationships
of its actors. Given the diversity
of wastes treated (liquid, solid,
green or even metallic), a large
range of skills is represented
in Le Havre.
Like the town of Le Havre, this
sector continues to modernize
to meet the growing concerns
regarding environmental matters.
For example, with the launching
of E-COPORT by the port of Le
Havre Authority, a new system
of information makes it possible
to organize and collect the
wastes produced by ships.." |

 |
| |
| The
tightening of French and European environmental
rules offers many opportunities of development
and setting up in the Le Havre region and
reinforces the whole sector.
The
experience and competence of the Seine Estuary
in mastering the environment and industrial
risks led to the setting up of the Institut
Européen des Risques (Risk European
Institute) in Honfleur, with the support
of the Ministère de l’Ecologie
et du Développement Durable (Sustainable
Development and Ecology State Department). |
