The
presence of the Renault Sandouville major
site (top-of-the-range vehicles: Vel Satis,
Laguna, Espace) and the proximity to several
other large production units (PSA Peugeot-Citroën,
Renault Trucks) have turned the local car
industry into a competitive and very comprehensive
sector.
In
addition to these large units, the automotive
sector can also rely on an efficient and
structured network of sub-contractors and
service providers entirely dedicated to
the Normandy car industry, which currently
represents 15% of national production.

| In
Normandy, automobile sub-contracting groups
together the major equipment manufacturers
into a structured and dynamic network. This
concern for performance and collaboration
with the main contractors took shape in
Le Havre, in 2001, with the creation of
a Supplier Industrial Park on the site of
Renault Sandouville, linking the major sub-contractors
of the national manufacturer and employing
more than 500 persons.

The
port of Le Havre provides the Normandy car
industry with a high-quality logistics tool
to distribute new vehicles in France and
all over the world and to supply the production
units.
The
roll-on/roll-off terminal, available day
and night seven days a week, ensures import
and export traffic (80%) all over the world.
Due to the continuous growth of this traffic
(472 000 vehicles in 2003), the port of
Le Havre has launched significant works
to extend these facilities. More
details...
As
well as attracting manufacturers, Le Havre’s
logistics propositions appeal to major logistics
operators, such as Gefco, occupying 32,000m2
of modern warehouses in the Le Havre Port
Industrial Zone since 2002, which benefits
from the worldwide influence of the leading
French container port for its activities
of assembly and redistribution of spare
parts.

MERESSE - General Manager |

"Within
the car industry, due to the
« just-in-time »
production constraints, customers
and suppliers are more and more
linked to one another. Plastic
Omnium settled in Le Havre in
1991, when the Supplier Industrial
Center Point of the Renault
plant was created. As an equipment
manufacturer in charge of production,
preparation and production cycles
of bumpers for Renault, Plastic
Omnium handles more than 750
references for vehicles assembled
on site. Even if the setting-up
site was not a deliberate choice
but met the manufacturer's requirements,
all our employees enjoy living
in the region, given the outstanding
quality of life it provides.” |
|
|
| |
 |
| |
| The
good health of the French automotive industry
reinforces the Le Havre and Normandy center
point whose level of performance is continuously
improving. The heavy investments made over
the last years in the sites of Renault Sandouville
(plant and Supplier Industrial Park) and
Renault Cléon (production of new
engines) will ensure the future of the industry
in the long-term.
The
development of the roll-on/roll-off terminals
of the port of Le Havre to absorb a greatly
increasing flow shows the significant role
played by Le Havre in all aspects of the
French car industry.
